West Bromwich Albion have appealed against the red card given to defender Darnell Furlong during Saturday's 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
The 29-year-old was sent off by referee Adam Herczeg in first-half stoppage time for elbowing Koki Saito and is facing a potential three-game ban.
But Albion submitted a claim of wrongful dismissal to the Football Association on Monday in the hope the red card and suspension will be overturned.
Furlong was shown a straight red following a coming together with Saito as the pair challenged for a high ball just inside the Baggies' half moments after Adam Armstrong had given Tony Mowbray's side the lead.
Speaking after the match, Albion boss Mowbray said he had a good view of the incident.
"It happened right in front of me. Darnell tried to block the guy, there was no elbow, but the lad tried to duck under his shoulder to avoid the block and caught his face on the top of Darnell's arm," he said.
"I'm not sure any of the officials saw it. I would suggest it was really harsh."
As it stands, Furlong is set to miss the trip to Burnley on Tuesday, the home game against Hull City on Saturday, 15 March and the match against Norwich City at Carrow Road after the international break on 29 March.
