John Askey says his Truro City side's 3-2 loss at home to fellow strugglers Sutton United was "gutting".
The Tinners fought back from 2-0 down to level the game with nine minutes left, only to see Kai Jennings score what proved to be an 83rd-minute winner.
The defeat leaves Truro a point adrift at the bottom of the National League and seven points from safety.
"The attitude of the players, the commitment, you couldn't fault," Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.
"We worked really hard and to come away with nothing is obviously gutting for everybody, but the performance, apart from the mistakes that we made, was good.
"But you can't keep making the mistakes that we make and that's what's cost us again."
The loss was Truro's fourth consecutive defeat with the last two, to Sutton and Braintree Town, coming against sides who are fighting with Truro at the foot of the division.
"The last two or three performances have been poor, but I thought we would bounce back today and show real will to try and get the three points," added Askey after the loss.
"So to come away with nothing is obviously disappointing.
"But all we can do is keep battling away and hopefully things will change, because if you do show that commitment then eventually something will go right for you."
