Phil Parkinson hopes Kieffer Moore's ankle injury will not be serious enough to affect Wrexham's transfer plans.

Wales striker Moore was forced off on debut after damaging ligaments during Wrexham's Championship defeat at Southampton on Saturday.

For the moment, Wrexham remain hopeful that Moore's problem will not mean a long lay-off.

"He is going to have a scan on his ankle so we won't know the extent of that for a couple of days," said Wrexham boss Parkinson.

"We have just got to keep our fingers crossed with it."

Moore, 33, joined Wrexham from Sheffield United last week in a deal worth a reported £2m.

The north Wales club have brought in fellow forwards Ryan Hardie and Josh Windass this summer, with January signings Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez also on the books alongside Jack Marriott and Ollie Palmer.

They are also chasing Ipswich Town's Wales international Nathan Broadhead, with fingers crossed that the Moore setback will not mean there has to be a change of approach in what remains of the summer transfer window.

"We know which areas we want to add to the squad," he said.

"Obviously if the scan comes back and it's really bad, there might be a slight change of thought process.

"But in the main we are sticking to how we set out in the summer in terms of how we want the squad to be."

Targetman Moore's injury was all the more disappointing because he had produced an influential display on Wrexham's return to the second tier, the former Cardiff City player winning the penalty which had the Red Dragons on course for victory until Southampton's dramatic late comeback.

"I thought he was excellent," Parkinson added.

"He was a bit low on his minutes going into the game, but I thought his all-round performance was very good.

"He got the penalty, he was a real handful, his hold-up play was good. We have just got to hope he is OK."
