Swindon Town striker Harry Smith is set to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in Tuesday's League Two defeat at home to Barnet.

The 30-year-old suffered the knee injury in a second-half collision with Bees keeper Cieran Slicker as the Robins lost 2-0 at the County Ground.

"It's difficult to put into words really, I felt great being part of how well he was doing," Swindon manager Ian Holloway told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"He was taking all sorts of responsibilities with the group that I wanted and he was in formidable form - probably the best big number nine in the division by quite a way I feel.

"I'm just devastated for him. The nature of the injury, the season's gone."

Smith moved to Swindon from Sutton United last summer and has scored 18 goals in 49 appearances for the club since his return.

He first played for the Robins in 2017 while on loan from Millwall, scoring three goals in 19 games.

Holloway said he will have to do a "total rethink" on the squad going forward and change how they play.

"I'll have to have a look at everybody else I've got here and have a look at what I'll have to add and how are we actually going to do things," Holloway said.

Midfielder James Ball will be out for roughly six to eight weeks with a posterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee.

"It's not good news for him or us," Holloway added.
