Guernsey FC conceded three late goals to lose 4-2 at home to Pagham and drop out of the top five of the Southern Combination Premier Division.
Sam Murray hit the post in the fifth minute for the islanders at a windy Victoria Park.
Pagham's Howard Neighbour missed from close range with a 27th-minute effort while Aaron O'Brien forced a good save from Guernsey's Jordan Kelly three minutes later.
Pagham were left to rue their missed chances as Charlton Gauvain fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box six minutes before half time to give the hosts the lead.
But the visitors drew level six minutes after the restart through Harry Giles, only for Guernsey to restore their advantage moments later as Will Fazakerly tapped in Murray's pass.
But Neighbour drew Pagham level once again with 12 minutes to go before an unmarked Duncan Brown stunned Victoria Park as he put the Sussex side in front two minutes later.
And the defeat was confirmed in the 89th minute when Kieran Jones scored on the break as the islanders suffered a third loss in nine league games since relegation.
"It wasn't a good performance at all," Guernsey manager Tony Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"I was actually bored in the first half to be honest, it was so slow it was like a testimonial.
"That's not what we want our team to play like, that's not how we train, that's not how we try and play but we did today.
"That gave the foundation for them to go and win the game because we did everything they wanted us to do.
"That was not play the conditions, not be sharp enough, not turn the screw and have good tempo."
