Walsall head coach Mat Sadler has refused to rule out signing free agent Romaine Sawyers after he played in a friendly win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Harrison Burke scored the only goal at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium as midfielder Sawyers, 33, played half an hour as a trialist for his former club.
Sawyers spent three years at Walsall between 2013 and 2016 and has also played for Brentford, Cardiff City, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke.
He is a free agent after leaving Bristol Rovers this summer.
"We all know the career Romaine has had," Sadler told BBC Radio WM.
"Everything is very open; we have a style we play so we will see. It was an opportunity to make sure he is up to speed; he wants to keep playing.
"Romaine lives close to the training ground and we'll see where it goes. There is nothing committed from anybody at the moment."
Sadler has made seven new signings already this summer but admits he wants more new players to arrive.
"We are looking to recruit, we are trying, we'll see what happens," he added.
"Romaine has my respect for the player he is and person he is. He is wonderful to be around and whatever does happen that respect will remain."
