Wycombe head coach Mike Dodds hailed his side's control as he oversaw his first win since being appointed.

Second-half goals from Cameron Humphreys and Daniel Udoh saw off Bristol Rovers 2-0 on Tuesday.

It moved Wanderers, second in League One, five points clear of Wrexham in third and six points behind Birmingham at the top of the league.

Victory was a first for Dodds at the third attempt since being given the job, after defeat on penalties at Preston in the FA Cup and a 1-1 draw with Crawley.

"From the moment the whistle blew I thought we had control from start to finish," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"We spoke at half time about having more of a threat and being a bit more direct to goal; we did that early on and the game was put to bed."

Dodds joined from Sunderland at the start of February to replace Matt Bloomfield, who left to take charge of Championship side Luton.

"I said to the group when I came in, we wanted to be a bit more together and harder to play against," he said.

"I think over the three games we've done that and tonight we looked better in possession which was really important."

Dodds is trying to lead Wycombe back to the Championship for the first time since relegation in 2021.

"It's about the team and trying to evolve what we're trying to do," he said.

"In 120 minutes we kept a clean sheet against a Championship team and yes, we drew 1-1 against Crawley but it took a worldie of a goal to break us, and now we have another clean sheet.

"We're not getting ahead of ourselves. We've got to back this up and go and get another three points."

Two January singings, defender Anders Hagelskjaer and midfielder Magnus Westergaard, have yet to feature under Dodds.

"The club have invested in them and I'm completely on board with the direction of the football club, they're investments for the future," he said.

"With the Danish players they're in the middle of their pre-season. In 10 days, I've taken three or four proper sessions and they're getting up to speed a little bit.

"They're both on board with their plans but the timelines are slightly distorted. They want to play but they want to get up to speed and Wycombe fans should be really excited by both of them."

Wycombe next host 16th-placed Wigan on Saturday.
