Paul Heckingbottom says his Preston North End side were responsible for their defeat by Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers.

The Lilywhites could have gone second in the Championship if they had taken the three points, but instead ended the evening fourth.

Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Sometimes you come off having given your best and you're really pleased with how you played and you can hold your hands up but today, I think it was on us."

"The two stand out things are when you're on top and you miss your chances and then you give two set play goals away, you're going to have to do something special to win the game. So, yeah, disappointed with those two elements really."

North End are away to Watford on Tuesday evening before travelling to Sheffield Wednesday next Saturday for the final game of the month.
