Newport County will be without striker Kyle Hudlin for up to two months after the on-loan forward suffered a calf injury.

Hudlin, 24, scored the winner in last week's League Two victory over Carlisle United, his sixth goal for County since joining from Huddersfield Town.

But he missed the weekend draw with Bradford City and has now been ruled out for between six and eight weeks.

Newport had been waiting for the results of a scan after Hudlin complained of a sharp pain in his calf in the lead-up to the Bradford game, with boss Nelson Jardim saying "something was not quite right".

Hudlin will now be sidelined until April and could miss as many as 10 games.

Newport had been five points off the relegation places at the end of last month before a six-game unbeaten run, including a stretch of four straight wins. They are currently 15th, nine points off the play-offs.

Hudlin is one of five loan players who are due to leave Rodney Parade at the end of the season, with a number of first-team players also out of contract.

Jardim said recently it was too early to begin talks over possible new deals.

Hudlin has a year remaining on his Huddersfield deal having signed from non-league Solihull Moors in 2022.

He has also spent time on loan at AFC Wimbledon and Burton Albion, but has played more league games for Newport – and scored his first EFL goals for the Welsh club – after signing in August, with his stay extended in January.
