Luton Town forward Elijah Adebyao will miss the rest of the Championship season after having surgery on a knee injury he sustained in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Leeds United.

The 27-year-old had to be substituted after 49 minutes of the game at Kenilworth Road and the club have now revealed he has undergone an operation on an ACL injury.

"I'm so disappointed for Eli," Hatters boss Matt Bloomfield told the club website., external

"He's been working incredibly hard recently in training and I think we were beginning to see the best of him again."

Adebayo has scored five times in the league for Luton this season but had failed to find the back of the net in his past 19 appearances with his last goal coming in a 2-1 defeat by Stoke City on 10 December.

"I'll be working tirelessly on my recovery and can't wait to return stronger," Adebayo said.

"For the time being I'll be supporting the boys from the sidelines."

Luton are currently second from bottom in the Championship table, two points from safety and host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
