Birmingham City striker Jay Stansfield has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad.

Sky Sports report Blues' leading scorer has been deemed unfit to play because of "knocks" and now returns to Birmingham for assessment.

Stansfield returned from a leg injury in March, having missed three Championship games after being stretchered off during Blues' EFL Trophy semi-final against Bradford City in February.

The 22-year-old has three previous caps for Lee Carsley's England squad, making his debut against Serbia in 2023. He was the only player of Carsley's call-ups to play outside of the top two divisions.

Sunderland defender Dennis Cirkin and Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens have also withdrew, with Southampton defender Ronnie Edwards earning his maiden call up to replace Cirkin.
