Guernsey FC returned to winning ways as they won 2-0 at 10-man Lancing in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

The game turned after 30 minutes when Lancing's Belal Ouachan was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity after handballing Callum Le Lacheur's long ball towards Sam Murray.

Eight minutes later Murray put the islanders ahead with an overhead kick after the league's bottom side failed to deal with a ball into their box.

Murray had a shot cleared off the line soon after as Ross Allen also went close for the Green Lions before half-time.

Lancing's Ellis Collier had two chances early in the second half while Will Fazakerley dragged an effort wide for Guernsey with 14 minutes to go.

Fin Du Port made the game safe in the 89th minute as he marked his 50th Guernsey FC appearance with the second goal after an excellent strike from the edge of the box.

”Last Saturday we didn't cover ourselves in any glory, so it's great to get the points today,” Guernsey coach Steve Sharman told BBC Radio Guernsey.

“The table this morning showed that Lancing were bottom.

“But when you turn up and they've got no players that have played for them this season - so a brand new team and a brand new management team - that's happened to us so many times, we had to be really clear that this wasn't going to be an easy game.

“It wasn't, they were very motivated, and our guys had to find a way.

“It could have been over long before the second goal went in, but it wasn't, so it was always nerve-wracking at 1-0.”
