Oxford sign Rangers defender Davies on loan

Oxford United have signed centre-back Ben Davies on loan from Scottish Premiership club Rangers for the rest of the season.

The former Preston and Liverpool player has made more than 150 appearances in the Championship and also played in the Champions and Europa Leagues.

Davies has been with Rangers since the summer of 2022 but spent last season on loan at Birmingham City, playing 44 games and helping them win promotion from League One.

"I've played a lot of football, and I hope I can bring those experiences to the team," he told the U's website., external

"I'm really looking forward to getting started and helping the club achieve its ambitions."

Oxford lost their opening two Championship games at the start of the new campaign and are away to Birmingham on Saturday.

"Ben is a very experienced and strong defender with a great ability to play forward," head coach Gary Rowett added.

"He has played at a very high level in extremely pressurised environments where he has demonstrated his qualities."
