Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has said the club have been given permission to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan after Pierce Charles was sidelined with a shoulder injury, leaving the club without a senior keeper.

The Championship club are under a number of registration embargoes but have been given dispensation to bring in a goalkeeper under English Football League regulations around having a keeper who has played professionally.

Northern Ireland international Charles, 20, has started all three of Wednesday's games so far this season.

When asked by BBC Radio Sheffield if they had permission to sign a keeper Pedersen said: "I don't know how, but I have got the information that we have, and we are working to find a solution."

He added: "I hope that we have one very soon. It's a difficult situation to get all the things we're looking for.

"We're working to find a solution for a keeper who can be here for more than just seven days."

Pedersen did not put a timescale on how long Charles would be out for but said it would be until at least the international break, which would keep him out for the next three matches.

The Owls travel to Wrexham on Saturday, with both teams looking for their first points of the season after losing their opening two matches.
