Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is pleased there will be a reduction in the number of international breaks at the start of next season.

The Suffolk side resume their Championship campaign at home to Wrexham on Saturday (15:00 GMT) after a third and final two-week interval without a game.

There will be only two international breaks before Christmas from next term with the October schedule disappearing in favour of an extended three-week window in September.

"I'm glad they're changing it next year - for me it's too disruptive having three breaks in that shorter spell, especially when you're a team who has brought in players late in the window, that's a big challenge," McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"It'll be good to get the last break over, we have a really busy run of games then but at least we know the group is going to be consistently together for the next few months and that can be beneficial."

Ipswich had captain Dara O'Shea and Jack Taylor away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland as they reached the World Cup qualification play-offs while George Hirst was part of the Scotland squad which qualified for next year's tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The next international break will be in March 2026.
