Sign for your new club one day, score the winner in a London derby the next.

This was the story for new Millwall signing Luke Cundle.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder was one of a flurry of late signings at The Den before the winter window closed on Monday.

Barely 15 hours after his move was announced, he stepped out as part of the team for his side's Championship match against QPR.

Aaron Connolly put the Lions ahead after 30 seconds with his first goal since joining the club from Sunderland earlier in January, before Alfie Lloyd levelled for the visitors two minutes later.

And then on 25 minutes, Cundle was the quickest to react as George Saville's header crashed back off the crossbar, nodding in a debut goal to help his new club secure a 2-1 win.

"I met all the lads on the Friday in training. Straight in on Saturday against QPR, that was a great game to go into, stadium was full and I scored the winning goal so it couldn't be much better," he told BBC Radio London.

Cundle made the move from Premier League side Wolves having made seven appearances for his boyhood club and spending much of the last two-and-a-half years on loan in the Championship at Swansea, Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City.

With 72 appearances notched up in the second tier in that time, he was keen to join a club where he could continue his development at that level.

"It was time to move on from my previous club. I'd been there a long time and I wanted to go and play Championship football again," he said.

Much of the attention had focused on outgoings earlier in the transfer window, and specifically Romain Esse's drawn out transfer to Crystal Palace.

But once their homegrown star's future was resolved, with the club banking a fee reported to be as much as £14.5m, incomings were very much on the agenda.

Attacking midfielder Cundle, 22, was the fourth addition to Alex Neil's squad after Connolly's move from Wearside, defender Tristan Crama was brought in from Brentford and 18-year-old striker Ajay Matthews joined from Middlesbrough.

Club record signing Camiel Neghli followed Cundle through the door from Sparta Rotterdam on January 31.

Before a manic deadline day saw winger Benicio Baker arrive from Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea's Zak Sturge brought in on loan, as well as the return of Zak Lovelace - the club's second youngest ever player - from Rangers.

In total, Neil made eight signings.

"It's like I'm an old signing, I only came in a few days ago. I see on social media all the new lads coming in, all the new faces," he said.

"It's very hard to come in and play in the Championship so it's going to take time for some of the players to settle. You might get some players come in and hit it straight off, that can happen as well.

"There's a big squad but there's a lot of games. Lots of games brings lots of chances [to play]."

After three successive Championship wins for Millwall, focus turns to the FA Cup and a trip to Elland Road on Saturday at lunchtime.

"We're really looking forward to it. The FA Cup is always great whoever you're playing, especially Leeds. The away fans will have a good day out hopefully and we can try and get a result there and win."
