Crawley Town striker Tola Showunmi has been banned for three matches by the Football Association for an off-the-ball incident of violent conduct.

It occurred in the 87th minute of Crawley's 2-0 defeat by fellow strugglers Cambridge United on Saturday and was not seen by match officials but caught on camera.

The 24-year-old denied the claim but an independent regulatory commission found it proven and imposed the ban, and also rejected an appeal from the forward.

Showunmi has scored seven goals in 27 games for Crawley this season.

He will be unavailable for Crawley's match against Lincoln on Tuesday, as well as at home to Reading on Saturday, 8 March and Charlton on Tuesday, 11 March.
