Notts County head coach Martin Paterson has urged the club to reinforce a squad "running on fumes".

Paterson saw positives in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bromley but was frustrated to concede a late equaliser that left the Magpies with just one win from their opening five games in League Two this season.

"Improvements are being made but we will not accept not winning games that I think we should - and I think we should have won that game," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"We have to respect a point at times and dig in but when you concede late goals as a trend, you've got to look at what you can do."

Paterson said he was "unified with the club" and stressed the need for reinforcements before the transfer window closes next Monday.

"We're working on things and there are improvements but what we can't do as a football club is blinker ourselves to the things that need working on and also what personnel we need," he said.

The Magpies have also been hampered by the absence of Gambian forward Alassana Jatta so far this campaign.

Jatta was the Magpies' leading scorer last season but missed Saturday's draw with a back spasm having just served a five-match suspension, and Paterson is unsure when he will return.

"I'll accept some of the positives that I saw today but I won't hide that the players need support now," he added.

"I'm making changes but I'm limited to what I can [change] and can see that some of them are running on fumes. I'm holding on to them because I have to.

"There's work being done and the window is still open - that's a positive - and we've got people coming back in to bulk up the squad."

County return to action on Saturday when they head to Tranmere (15:00 BST).
