Gwalia United have signed midfielder Bethan McGowan from Derby County, their first signing of the close season.

McGowan came through the Arsenal Academy and has also had spells with Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old is a former Wales Under-19 international and joins Gwalia ahead of the upcoming FA Women's National League Premier Division season.

"Coming back to Wales and playing for a team with a clear plan and a real purpose just felt right. I can't wait to get started," McGowan said.

Gwalia United manager James Thomas said: "She's a player I know very well and someone I was very keen to bring to the club.

"To secure her as our first signing of the summer really is a signal of intent — a clear marker of where this club is heading.

"We're committed to bringing the best Welsh talent home.

"We want to be a club that helps players like Beth thrive — not just for our benefit, but for the benefit of Welsh football as a whole.

"We believe clubs like ours can and should be part of the national conversation in the years ahead."
