Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo says Wrexham’s players are “100%” focused on trying to win a third successive promotion this season.

The north Wales club have made a bright start to their first third-tier league campaign in 19 years.

Wrexham drew at Bolton Wanderers on Sunday having beaten Wycombe on the opening weekend of the League One season.

And though Wrexham were a National League club only 16 months ago, Okonkwo says Phil Parkinson’s players have their eyes on a place in the Championship.

“The manager has brought in really good players,” Okonkwo said.

“We are going to go for promotion this season definitely. We are not going to stand back and try to stay in the league.

“We want to go for it as a team and results like [the Bolton draw] help.”

Bolton are among the favourites to win promotion from League One in 2024-25 having lost out to Oxford United in last season’s play-off final.

But Wrexham claimed a creditable point at the Toughsheet Community Stadium with Okonkwo praising his team-mates for smothering the home side’s attacking threat.

“We knew it would be difficult playing against a good team, but I think we were good defensively and created good chances in the second half,” said the 22-year-old.

“It’s not going to be an easy league. But we are churning results out game by game.

“It’s a great start. We just have to keep going now because it’s a long season.”

Wrexham will look to maintain their early-season momentum when they host Reading next Saturday.
