Torquay United boss Paul Wotton said his side were "magnificent" as they beat fellow National League South high-fliers Truro City 1-0.

Jordan Young's impressive goal in the 80th minute was enough to seal a game which saw the visitors impress against the league-leading Gulls.

Torquay had to play out the final few minutes with 10 men after Jordan Thomas was sent off after a coming together with an opposing player.

The win keeps Torquay a point clear at the top of the table ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy trophy to Worthing and sees them five points ahead of fifth-placed Truro.

"It's a tremendous result, a fantastic result," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

"Up until the sending off I thought we were comfortable and we were good, and then after the sending off I just thought we were magnificent. I thought we were absolutely magnificent.

"Truro City will be right up there at the end of the season. I know that because eight of their starting 11 I've coached and I've had.

"I know what they are, they play the same shape, they're good at it, they've got top players and you can see why they're up there and you can see why they've got an amazing away record and you can see why they score so many last-minute goals, because they're relentless.

"I think it's probably the best clean sheet of the season. We had endeavour, we had passion, we had spirit, togetherness. All in all thrilled with the result."
