Nigel Clough says he hopes his Mansfield Town players will "enjoy the occasion" of playing at Everton's new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Mansfield were drawn away to the Premier League side in the Carabao Cup second round after beating Chesterfield in the first round.

The fixture, on Wednesday (19:45 BST), will be the first ever competitive cup game to take place in Everton's new stadium.

"We want to try and put on a performance if we can. We can at least try and put on a show, but also if you don't it's not the end of the world," said boss Clough.

"It's about something more than that."

The Stags, despite losing their first two games of the 2025-26 League One season, have won their last three games in the league.

"I don't think our form will make much difference," said Clough, looking ahead to the tie.

"We could be in the best form in the world but the gulf between the Premier League and League One is huge.

"It's nice to go into it off the back of a few wins but this is a one-off situation. We have to just go and enjoy the game."

The game, which has now sold out according to Everton, will provide a financial boost for Mansfield.

"It is big financially. Getting a bit of money in is always nice before the transfer window closes," said Clough.

"We're hopefully going to sell around 6,000 tickets and Everton have sold out. Clearly there is an attraction for the game."

But he added: "This isn't the most important game for us this week - that will be on Saturday against Lincoln."

Mansfield travel to Lincoln on Saturday (15:00 BST), when they will aim to make it four back-to-back league wins.
