Mansfield advanced to the second round of the Carabao Cup, winning at local rivals Chesterfield following goals from Rhys Oates and Will Evans in either half.

The result means that Chesterfield have set a new Carabao Cup losses record, with 13 successive defeats in the competition.

The visitors scored just two minutes in when Oates picked the ball up and played a one-two with Dom Dwyer before slotting past Zach Hemming.

Chesterfield's Ronan Darcy had an effort deflected wide and Armando Dobra forced a good save from Liam Roberts.

The Mansfield keeper also saved from Chey Dunkley and Dobra before the break.

Evans put the visitors further ahead in the 59th minute, seizing on a loose pass from Dunkley before firing under Hemming.

Aaron Lewis threatened to add a third goal with a 25-yard free-kick which was turned round a post by Hemming.

As tensions boiled over, Chesterfield manager Paul Cook was booked.

Cook made a number of attacking substitutions to try and bring about a change of fortunes.

The hosts never seriously threatened to mount a comeback, however, as they tasted defeat after starting the season with back-to-back wins.

It was a pleasing result for Mansfield following a disappointing start to their League One campaign.
