Bristol City assistant manager Chris Hogg said he was "so proud" of the club, as his side capped an emotional week with victory at Middlesbrough.

Both sets of players and fans paid tribute before the match to the family of Robins manager Liam Manning, following the death of his baby son Theo.

Hogg, who stepped in for Manning in the dugout, saw his players grind out a professional win with first-half goals from Anis Mehmeti and Yu Hirakawa.

He said he hoped Bristol City's first away win of the season "put a smile" on Manning's face, "even if it was for a few seconds".

'For little Theo'

"I’m proud of the club, because it was never going to be a smooth performance where we were at our optimum," Hogg told BBC Radio Bristol.

"It was always going to be a case of riding the early emotions of the tribute, which I thought was beautiful for little Theo.

"I'm so proud of the players and thank them for this week and how they've been as human beings."

On Monday, Bristol City released a statement which announced that Manning would take a period leave of absence.

Hogg added: "I know the gaffer would have been watching even though I told him not to, but I hope it put a smile on his face even for a few seconds.

"Me and Liam (Manning) just want to make this the best club it can be and make it a team the city can be proud of."
