A rare moment of joy for Birmingham Phoenix when Tim Southee bowled Joe Root.

    It went downhill form there...

Trent Rockets are without doubt a team that can go far.

They have the class of Joe Root and the one for me was Rehan Ahmed. He is a guy that would normally bat seventh or eighth but they had the confidence to bring him up to third and give him a go.

He played beautifully with some good authentic cricket shots, there wasn't any slogging. It was a shame when he got out because he would've finished the game much sooner with how he was striking the ball.

I think Liam Livingstone showed responsibility in his innings, I guess that's the mantle that comes with captaincy. He managed to get his team out of a tricky situation.

Birmingham Phoenix were four down in the early stages of the game, more than any other team in this competition, so that's something they need to address going forward.

There's nothing like a big loss to assess what's not going well.

  5. 'Early wickets helped us through the middle'published at 21:09 British Summer Time

Match hero Lockie Ferguson who took 3-20: "It was a good night. The boys bowled excellent and give a pretty good total for the batters to chase.

"The short boundary on the leg side was intimidating for sure. But we got early wickets that helped us through the middle.

"The team's got together really quickly, which is a nice. A good bunch of lads.

"One day and then the Superchargers. Important to go home and put on a good performance for our fans."

That was a crushing win for Trent Rockets, wasn't it? They never really looked in any trouble, maybe they had the odd hiccup here and there, but overall it just wasn't Birmingham Phoenix's night.

They didn't get enough runs. They fell apart with their batting. They had the odd smattering of hope with the ball but Trent Rockets were always reasonably in control of the game.

A great win, especially away from home.

Job done - with plenty of balls to spare.

An absolutely crushing win for Trent Rockets over Birmingham Phoenix, sealed with another Adam Hose boundary.

A touch of glove, off to fine leg and that's enough.

    And there goes Adam Hose!

He sends Adam Milne's first delivery over extra cover for a boundary.

    Just four needed now...

He has never averaged more in a calendar year.

A couple of singles from Southee's last three deliveries - he's done with figures of 2-36.

Distain is the only way to describe Marcus Stoinis' shot there. He put his foot down the track and just slapped the ball.

It's a bit of a consolation prize for Birmingham Phoenix, isn't it?

I think Stoinis was just motioning as he walked off there that maybe he should've gone over the wicket-keeper and looked to play that little ramp shot.

Goes for another pull - top edges for the catch!

Marcus Stoinis fancied another juicy boundary but didn't get hold of that Tim Southee delivery - it flies out square and Dan Mousley runs in from the boundary and slides in to take the grab.

    That's the fielder's third catch.

Tim Southee sits one up for Marcus Stoinis and he doesn't need asking twice.

    Slapped over mid-wicket.

  14. Rockets 107-3published at 30 balls left

    16 runs needed

Finally some spin as Dan Mousley comes on to bowl for Birmingham Phoenix.

Bowling round the wicket and firing it in, Max Holden drives his final ball through the covers for four.

Beats the diving fielder on the ropes - I've said that a few times in this innings, the Rockets batters have been timing it beautifully.

  15. Rockets 100-3published at 35 balls left

    23 runs needed

Three fours back-to-back for Max Holden!

The Rockets batter hammer Benny Howell, scooping over his shoulder then striking through the covers and then point.

A further single ends the set and brings up the Rockets' 100. Meanwhile Howell is done with figures of 2-25.

  16. Rockets 87-3published at 40 balls left

    36 runs needed

Australian Marcus Stoinis comes in and doesn't score from his first two deliveries.

Howell is going to bowl 10 for the second time - Phoenix have used just four bowlers so far, all seamers.

Curious - they'll need to introduce a fifth bowler soon.

    Hammered to mid-wicket!

Tom Banton had just scored a four, easing a slower delivery from Howell through an empty cordon, but now he's on his way.

He lashes a short ball to Dan Mousley, who takes a few paces to his right and takes the catch.

  18. Rockets 82-2published at 45 balls left

    41 runs needed

Bit of a quieter set of five deliveries as the Rockets batters knock Adam Milne about for five runs.

The batting side call a strategic timeout - not sure what there is to discuss now, but who doesn't like a nice little break?

  19. Rockets 77-2published at 50 balls left

    46 runs needed

Max Holden comes in at four for Rockets and knocks the last delivery from Howell away.

Half way through the innings and the visiting side are well on their way.

I think you would say the door is slightly ajar. Rehan Ahmed maybe got a little caught up in the moment there.

He was batting well and hitting the ball beautifully, so all he needed to do was just keep batting. The damage has been done now and it was a little bit needless. These giveaway dismissals can prove costly.
