Colwill gets Wales call for Nations League games

Cardiff City’s Rubin Colwill has been called up to the Wales squad for the Nations League games against Turkey and Montenegro in September.
Colwill has been promoted by Craig Bellamy from the Under-21 squad following Leeds United winger Daniel James’ withdrawal because of a hamstring problem.
Neath-born attacker Colwill, 22, scored a stunning goal in front of the watching Bellamy during Cardiff City’s 5-3 Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Southampton on Wednesday.
Afterwards Colwill earned praise from Saints boss Russell Martin, the former Swansea City manager.
The memorable strike came just hours after Bellamy had announced his squad with nine-times capped Colwill omitted.
Instead Colwill was included in Matty Jones’ Under-21 squad alongside a number of other players who featured in the summer friendlies under former senior boss Rob Page.
Colwill played in the goalless draw against Gibraltar in June. His previous senior outing to that was in the 3-0 World Cup group game defeat to England in Qatar in November 2022.
Bellamy’s first game as Wales boss will be in Colwill’s home stadium against Turkey on Friday, 6 September, ahead of a trip to Montenegro three days later.
