French side Nantes have expressed "deep indignation" over alleged racist abuse of their Wales international Sorba Thomas following a recent defeat at Lens.

The 25-year-old, who is on loan at Nantes from League One side Huddersfield Town, came on as a substitute in the 80th minute and was himself replaced before the final whistle.

Nantes stated: "FC Nantes expresses its deep indignation following the racist insults to which Sorba Thomas was subjected following the match against RC Lens on social networks.

"The club wishes to give its full and unwavering support to its player."

Huddersfield also condemned the abuse and offered Thomas their support.

"We are angered to learn of racist abuse being directed towards Sorba Thomas and stand with both Sorba and FC Nantes in condemning this in the strongest possible terms," the English club said in a statement.

"Discrimination of all forms has no place in society. Those responsible should feel the full consequence of their actions."
