Crewe Alexandra have re-signed centre-back Connor O'Riordan from Blackburn Rovers on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old began his career with the Alex, making 59 appearances before being sold to Blackburn a year ago.

But he has only made two substitute appearances so far for the Championship club and spent the first half of this season on loan at Cambridge United.

O'Riordan will provide cover for James Connolly, who suffered a torn hamstring against Bromley earlier this month.

"When James got injured we thought it was necessary to bring in a centre-half, and there's no better than Connor," said boss Lee Bell.

"He knows exactly what we're all about and what we're working towards. It took a bit of negotiation but we are delighted to get it over the line."

Crewe are currently second in League Two ahead of Saturday's home game against Accrington Stanley.
