Cardiff City have completed the signing of Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Kanga on a season-long loan.

The French-born 27-year-old joins the Championship side from German Bundesliga 2 club Hertha Berlin.

Kanga was also out on loan last season in Belgium's Pro League with Standard Liege, where he scored 12 goals in 32 appearances.

"I feel very happy to be here. I know all about Cardiff City already. We want to get this club back up the league," said Kanga.

"I've enjoyed being in the stadium already. You can feel something special around it. I can't wait now to play in front of our fans."

Cardiff boss Erol Bulut said: "He has got a bit of everything as a forward. He works hard and can finish. He has a lot of quality.

"We needed more in that position this season. We were excited by what he showed last term in Belgium and believe as coaches we can help him get even better.

"He knows what he must deliver as part of our team. We hope he can score and assist a lot of goals."

Kanga is the Championship club's third recruit of the summer window, following the additions of former Queens Park Rangers forward Chris Willock and ex-Arsenal and Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers.

Cardiff are hopeful of adding further players to their squad in the next few days.

Kanga is a product of the Paris St-Germain youth academy and played in Ligue 1 with Angers.

He also played for Turkish First Division club Kayserispor, before scoring 18 goals in 35 games for Bern-based Swiss club Young Boys, where he gained Champions League and Uefa Conference League experience.

He joined Hertha on a four-year deal in July 2022 before last season's loan.

After earning one cap for Ivory Coast Under-20s, Kanga played for the France equivalent team before making his senior international debut for the Ivorians in 2022 in a friendly against Togo, earning a second cap against Guinea.

Though Kanga can play in a wide berth, it is expected that Bulut will use the 6ft 2in player as a centre-forward.

Bulut has targeted a striker as a priority in the summer transfer window.

Cardiff drew 1-1 with Hertha in a pre-season friendly last Thursday but Kanga did not feature for the Berlin side.

The Bluebirds continue their pre-season build-up on Wednesday with a friendly against Reading at the Cardiff City Stadium.
