Feyenoord have signed defender Anel Ahmedhodzic from Championship side Sheffield United on a four-year deal.

The 26-year-old made 114 appearances for the Blades after joining in July 2022 from Swedish side Malmo.

He joins Feyenoord, who finished third in the Eredivisie last season, after they submitted an offer worth £15.6m (18m euros).

The Dutch club say they are working to secure his eligibility for Wednesday's Champions League qualifying fixture against Fenerbahce.

Ahmedhodzic helped Sheffield United win promotion to the Premier League in 2022-23 and played in their top-flight campaign the following season as well as last term, when they were defeated in the Championship play-off final by Sunderland.

"Things have moved incredibly quickly in the last few days," Ahmedhodzic told Feyenoord's website., external

"I couldn't be happier. Playing for such a big European club is something I've always worked hard for.

"I'm grateful that Feyenoord is giving me this opportunity and that they've done everything they can to get me eligible to play in the matches against Fenerbahce. I can't wait to put on this shirt and give it my all with my new team-mates. Here's to many great things to come."
