Cambridge United have signed defender Emmanuel Longelo on loan from fellow League One side Birmingham City for the rest of the season.

Former West Ham United trainee Longelo, 23, becomes the U's 11th signing of the summer transfer window.

Following the loan signing of midfielder Josh Stokes, he is the second capture inside 24 hours for Cambridge, who have lost both their league matches so far this season.

He is also the second Birmingham player to join Cambridge this summer.

Gary Gardner rejoined his old Blues boss Garry Monk at the Abbey Stadium when he signed back in mid-July.

Cambridge are due to play Birmingham for the first time this season at St Andrew's on 12 October.

They will be hoping to pick up their first points this season on Saturday at home to another of League One's six currently pointless sides Blackpool, who sacked their manager on Wednesday.
