Sunday proved to be a fruitful afternoon for Celtic

The final Scottish Premiership fixtures of 2024 certainly provoked a response from BBC Sport website and app users.

Here's a selection of your comments.

'Another relentless performance from Celtic'

Leaders Celtic signed off for the year with a 4-0 home win against St Johnstone...

John F: It's difficult, if not impossible, to see any team mount any kind of league challenge. In this mood and with the quality of squad Celtic have we are on a different level to every other Scottish team, frighteningly for the others and with the Champions League in mind we will most probably strengthen in January's transfer window.

Stephen: This was one of my favourite performances in the league this half season. I thought Alex Valle and Arne Engels were superb, with Paulo Bernardo doing a good job covering for our captain. I still feel that we are a bit off it up front, but it's more to do with the lack of service to Kyogo Furuhashi, who showed yet again what he can do when he gets a sniff of an opportunity.

John T: Having the luxury of reducing the minutes of some big hitters, all of whom do a lot of running in our system, whilst still picking up three points, four goals and a clean sheet, is outstanding. We go to Ibrox with confidence. With the current form of both sides, it could get messy for Rangers if Celtic take the lead on Thursday.

John M: Another relentless performance from Celtic, the visitors defended well but once the first goal went in it was always going to end one way.

Gordy: A magnificent performance and a magnificent attitude from the players, they played as if they were playing a title challenger and not the team at the bottom, it's all down to the manager who will not let the standards drop, we need to get his contract sorted out after Ibrox where I believe we will show how big the gap is between us and the rest.

Neil: You have to say the rotation recently has been fantastic. Players sitting out and coming in have all performed brilliantly. It's a credit to Rodgers and one of the main reasons we have all but won the league. Treat to watch.

It was a tough watch for Saints fans...

Duncan: Not unexpected, nor disappointing. The gulf in resources in Scottish football is for another debate. For Saints there is still clear evidence of better technical players than previous years, but a serious lack of on field leadership and resilience. January will be crucial for additions and hopefully a better balance on the field and in their mindset.

Stuart: Another game, another goal or two conceded by a goalkeeper incapable of coming off his line. Coupled with a multi-year issue of failing to stop crosses then there's only one outcome. Manager needs backed and backed seriously in two days when the window opens. The sooner we stop gifting goals, the sooner we can start looking up the table.

Glen: I'd say we are doomed. An unbalanced squad with some good players but glaring weakness in defending crosses, nervousness in possession, lack of leadership on the field. Only slight hope is that there are small margins in most games, new blood might tip the balance.

Jimmy: Better score than I predicted, I thought it'd be worse. Still think we need a few players in: another striker, a couple more for each of midfield and defence. As to the game, we were on the back foot most of the game, sadly I think we are really looking like being relegated.

Connor: Same mistakes. Same points gone. What's new?

Mikey: At least we kept it to four than the reverse fixture at home of six. Three league home games in January that we seriously need to start picking up points. Leaking defence and want-a-way strikers is the best for a real relegation battle, the squad isn't showing they are up for it.

Rangers encouraged to go 'back to basics'

Clement angered by Rangers defending again

Rangers are 14 points off the pace after coming from two down to draw 2-2 at Motherwell...

Stefon: Rangers once again can't defend or break down teams that sit back. Hamza Igamane was the only glimpse of quality in the team yet again. We need to forget about Celtic and the league, and just go back to basics and be able to string some passes together, score goals and get some results. The team is scared to lose and it shows with everything they are doing!

Steven: The only positives to take from another dreadful 45 minute display, is maybe now Philippe Clement knows the players he cannot trust and needs shot of. Tired of seeing abject defending and a lack of clinical finishing. Story of the season unfortunately. Looks like we need defenders and strikers in January - that is going to be very difficult.

Sally: The inconsistency in performance is mind-boggling. I would question the training regime given the amount of injuries. There is no hunger or desire in some of the players. Celtic will pull them apart with their movement. Nicolas Raskin seems to be the most consistent player.

Ronnie: Unforgiveable, five points shipped before we face Celtic. Forget the second half fight-back. Motherwell had a goal disallowed which should have stood. Clement inexplicably starts with Hamza Igamane and Vaclav Cerny on the bench, they come on and rescue a point. The league is over regardless of how we do on 2 January. Cyriel Dessers must be the most inept Ranger to wear the number nine jersey.

Brian: Well after another dismal display against Motherwell what is the excuse going to be this time from the manager? We Rangers supporters have heard it all this past few months, he can't have any more excuses left, how long can this go on? What does he see in Dessers that we Rangers supporters can't see?

Chris: Clement, please pack your bags, enough is enough. I'm actually so disheartened as a fan, and quite frankly I'm at breaking point, this never ending cycle has to stop now, he has to go, no more chances. I would rather face Celtic with no manager than this imposter.

Motherwell had two goals disallowed at Fir Park...

Edward: On Tony Watt's disallowed goal, please watch the Crystal Palace goal against Southampton and tell us what is different. Same scenario with the goalkeeper timing his jump wrong. Goal for Palace. Fully understand the frustration Stuart Kettlewell felt and shows what a farce VAR has become!

Fraser: I was getting tired of the manager's referee comments in previous games but I totally concur on the disallowed goal. Jack Butland slapped it in. The 'Well were good for a point and if that had been adjudged to be in for a 3-1 lead, different outcome and we would have been leaving Fir Park three points for the good.

Derek: Excellent performance first half. Great that we had a go. Shafted by another referee and a shocker in the second half. This will be brushed over because the small teams lose out against the Old Firm all the time.

James: Seems churlish to moan about the officials, but, for the second time against the big two, decisions go against us. A tremendous effort from the players, and Kettlewell was only voicing what the fans felt. Apologies at a later stage from the SFA won't change the result.

Alan: Let's celebrate an impressive team performance from all! It's never easy playing against Rangers but our tenacity, verve and commitment did us proud. And to lose two goals to VAR suggests we were far superior than our opponents. Keep up the good work 'Well.

Dundee United show 'incredible spirit'

Dundee United struck late to defeat Aberdeen...

Stephen: Simply superb, the scoreline is the only stat that doesn't show just how dominant United were. Aberdeen had a couple of chances but it felt like a matter of time until we scored. A complete reverse of the Pittodrie game. Jim Goodwin deserves the plaudits, he got the tactics and the team spot on, plus he has every single one of them bought in!

Eddie: Absolutely brilliant, what a way to win such a huge game! Deserved to win and no better feeling than beating Aberdeen. Kevin Holt has been fantastic and this was maybe his best game for us. Bring on the fun!

Duncan: Great season, so far. The team appear to be playing for each other and are working hard.

Andrew: Deserved win as we had the better chances through the game. Once again this team keep going until the final whistle. Poor defending from Aberdeen and super Holt scores. Great job team and Goodwin. Now on to Dens and the same result.

Kevin: United for me always looked the likelier to notch a winner but the whole time it's level the sucker punch can happen at any time. I thought defensively we were superb and if not for Holt notching that fabulous late winner, it would have been one of the best 0-0 draws I have seen and a fabulous advert for the Scottish game.

Calum: I was at Tannadice and thought we definitely just edged it as the better team. Aberdeen played well in periods but we created the clearer chances. This team has an incredible spirit about it and huge credit to Goodwin for fostering that. A derby win next week would incredible.

Aberdeen sustained a third defeat in a row...

Ross: This decline in the team's performances and the results in the last eight games is now so bad we risk moving even further down the table and all the good work done at the start of the season could be for nothing, and yet again we have another season of wasted opportunity. Are we ever going to see a consistent team again and actually win something?

Nik: Jimmy Thelin and company need to hit the reset button here with some fresh faces in the January window. Key players not performing or need a rest. The game against United was an improvement but we conceded in injury time twice in a month, and that needs to stop. A win against County is essential or I could see goodwill toward Thelin evaporating fast.

Andy: The performance on Sunday was certainly better than the Kilmarnock debacle but still a long way off acceptable. The work rate was better but, again, poor decision making and distribution at key times let them down. A couple of decent chances were created but the finishing was poor.

Andrew: The points return from the first 11 games compared with the last eight has been dramatic. However our form has been stable. We got breaks to start with but they have dried up as all opposition are improving and we are not. Injuries never help but we haven't had too many relatively speaking. Pape Gueye returning might be a cause for hope.

John: We are third at the halfway stage of the season. That is realistically the best we could have hoped for with this group of players. A few quality additions in January will ensure that we finish third come the end of the season. Thelin is no mug and he will know exactly what needs to be done going into 2025.

James: The same old schoolboy defending at corners. The fluid passing has disappeared and midfield looks tired and give the ball away far too often. Unless we get a good solid defender in the transfer window things will not change.

'Well done David Gray'

David Gray's Hibernian won a fourth game in a row and are within three points of the top six...

David: Terrific three points and a clean sheet without playing well. Expected a tougher afternoon given Killie had thumped the Dons last week. Rarely troubled and another excellent display from Nectar Triantis who's really starting to own the number six role. Fifth place on Thursday if results go our way. Well done David Gray.

Peter: A string of four wins can't be argued with. Defence looks better organised however attack must be more clinical. Personally impressed by the tremendous team spirit on show that was missing at the start of the season, they now fight for every ball and for each other: good to see.

John: The players have the talent and physicality to be a very decent top six team. What they needed to find was a cohesive way to play, a belief in each other and a determination to turn things round. Fair play to Gray and the players, after a switch to three at the back they have ticked all those boxes. Onwards and upwards.

Kenny: Another great result. We have stopped losing silly goals now and the team are playing with great confidence. All the players are working hard and that's what's getting results. We need to keep the work rate going and get another three points on Thursday. Good work.

Darren: The match wasn't a thriller by any stretch but who would have thought Hibs would win four games in a row? Not me, not anybody! Great credit must go to the manager and the players. Can we keep the momentum going now?

Dougie: Was never going to be the swashbuckling affair of Boxing Day, but we are now adapting to the teams we are playing, we look composed and our game management is excellent. Gray is bringing the correct substitutions on at the correct time. St Johnstone will be another challenge but we seem to play better away from home, four points from the next two games will do nicely.

Kilmarnock's McInnes rails against VAR yellow issue

Kilmarnock had Danny Armstrong sent off at Easter Road...

James: Once again we are talking about the referee. This guy was out of his depth, inconsistent to say the least. The sending off was ridiculous. After the penalty we didn't get at Fir Park you really despair about the standard of referees. It's always going to be a close game with Hibs and we didn't get going as we have in the last couple of games.

Jim: The game was played in difficult conditions which didn't allow free flowing football. We didn't look our normal selves, too many long balls up the park. We must take our chances and we did have a few. I also thought the referee was poor in some of his decisions, especially the sending off. Back to Rugby Park and hopefully three points.

Stephen: If Thursday served us up a wonderful feast with all the trimmings, this was cold, unappetising leftovers. Everything we did well against Aberdeen was inexplicably abandoned to resort to long ball tactics, which we persisted with despite it being totally ineffective. We just can't seem to put together two good games in a row, and it's costing us.

Adam: Very disappointing display. How can one player have a free shot on goal when you've got 11 men in the box, of which four of them were spectators watching the guy score, not one of them even attempted to get the ball! After such a brilliant display against Aberdeen, let ourselves down.

Robert: Sick of the incompetence from the officials. We're the third cleanest side and the fourth most fouled side in the league but have seven red cards. Apart from two, the rest are down to abysmal refereeing.

Jim: Danny Armstrong made it impossible for Killie to get anything out of the game. Another sending off and another suspension to contend with. If we continue with this folly, I am afraid we won't pick up enough points to keep us safe from relegation. Again, things must change.

'Excellent battling performance' from Dundee

Dundee got back to winning ways away to St Mirren...

Anon: From being atrocious against Ross County and getting heavily criticised, rightly deserved, Tony Docherty has masterminded an amazing result and performance against all the odds. Hopefully this will continue into our next game, please.

Ali: The second season for a promoted team is often harder than the first season. It's proving to be the case for Dundee, losing one of the best players to a big team doesn't help. Despite losing both centre halves the boys did well and were the better team. Simon Murray took both goals well. Deserved and much needed win. Only down side is the size of the injury list.

Ronnie: Excellent battling performance which largely put the Ross County shambles to bed. Injuries a big worry for the next month or so, however, we can take plenty of confidence from this win going into the derby; three points there for the taking at a sold-out Dens and burst their wee bubble down the road in the process.

Rod: We do have some resilience every time we are down to get results but please get the defence sorted. I'm glad Luke Graham is being recalled because if our defence is going to be inconsistent then we could be giving him valuable experience for the future rather than loan players. Good to see Murray scoring.

Brian: What a performance, they fought for every ball and ran themselves into the ground. Definitely a better game plan. If we can keep this going for another few games, then we should be fine. Derby next, so come on, let's do this.

Jimmy: 100 per cent better than the Ross County game, at least the team showed effort, now carry that into the next game, we will have to break them down, they are just like County. Good luck guys.

St Mirren could not build on their Boxing Day win over Rangers...

Douglas: They hardly complimented each other, but if Thursday was the yin, Sunday definitely wasn't the yang! Two entirely different opponents, and against Dundee, it wasn't pretty. Maybe two games in four days was too much for some of the players but they looked tired and there was a lack of focus. A lost opportunity but we move on to the next game and hope!

Ian: The game is gone, get it out of our system. Rest, recover, re-group and get ourselves mentally right for Thursday. We are still in the mix. It was a game that was always going to be tricky.

Craig: Another home match and another opponent coming to us and bypassing their midfield, absolutely brutal to watch Dundee, Tony Docherty is definitely from the Derek McInnes school of football, Saints weren't at our best but we should not be losing to teams like Dundee. We found it difficult to find a way to combat the relentless long balls.

'Good transfer window critical' for Ross County

Ross County staged a dramatic late comeback to draw 2-2 with Hearts...

Ali: We stole a point from Hearts on Sunday, revenge for our game at Tynecastle earlier in the season when Lawrence Shankland equalised in the 96th minute. Full credit to our players for battling to the final whistle. I thought Connor Randall was immense. Our defence was posted missing for both goals, a good transfer window will be critical for our season.

Ron: Astonishing game in awful conditions. Hearts seemed set to deservedly go 3-0 up with a penalty then a goal chalked off by VAR. Then came the County charge. County possibly deserved the point in the end but most of the quality came from Hearts, indeed most of it was from Liam Boyce, but James Wilson looks a prospect. Great grit shown by the squad.

David: County at times frustratingly find themselves unable to hold a lead but persisted to apply pressure on Hearts until they buckled, exploiting the deteriorating, sticky Hearts penalty area. Not all teams will fold like Hearts, not all pitches will cut up in monsoon conditions but if County can keep their composure they will prevail.

Callum: Think we need to work on defending and go and be dangerous in front of goal and make things more hard for the other team, and we need to work on defending our box, apart from that, a great point.

2024 ended on a sour note for Hearts fans...

Dougie: We are now definitely in a relegation battle, poor defending and management decisions again. It's going to be a long season.

Lee: Patience is wearing thin and Neil Critchley is on borrowed time. If the transfer window fails to yield progress then not only does the manager need to be booted, but the entire board need to precede him. Thank you for your service, but we need better and it starts with you.

John: We're in a relegation battle halfway through the season. No improvement since April/May. Drastic action required in the January window, difficult to do but there's no alternative. We need a squad to get us clear of relegation, then a total clear out come summer. To pick 42-year-old Craig Gordon over Zander Clark is madness. Critchley is trying too hard to be popular.

Jim: Scrap the obsession with the Pep Guardiola style of football and let players use the skills they are born with. There are players who are natural defenders, midfielders, strikers, but are held back by negative tactics like pointless passing across the back three/four, back to the keeper. Teams alter tactics, revert to more positive moves when losing!

Iain: Let's be clear that we should have had a penalty and then we win 3-0 and it's a great day for us. Leave that aside, the capitulation is horrific and the players should be ashamed. I said on here when Critchley was appointed that he was the wrong man and we'd be bottom at New Year.

Raymond: Total lack of composure and yet again another loss of valuable points in the fight against relegation. Critchley is simply devoid of tactics and is incapable of motivating this team. The board must face up to this current situation and replace him with a more experienced coach or manager before it is too late.
