Barrow midfielder Ben Whitfield has been given a three-match ban for violent conduct for an incident during his side's defeat by Fleetwood Town last Saturday.

The incident occurred at the end of the first half but was unseen at the time by referee Martin Woods.

Whitfield, 29, admitted the charge and will now miss league matches against Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers plus the tie with Blackpool in the Vertu Trophy.

"The player's behaviour around the fifth minute of added time in the first half wasn't seen by match officials at the time but was caught on video," an FA statement, external said.

The Bluebirds are 18th in League Two after six games and are also without captain Niall Canavan for the Swindon encounter after he was sent off against Fleetwood.
