Premier League referees receive a combination of a salary and match fees, and can get extra payments through officiating European and international competitions.
But the amount differs between referees, depending on their level of experience.
Who employs Premier League referees?
Premier League referees are employed by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
PGMOL also oversees the training, development and mentoring of referees and assistant referees, and is responsible for selecting officials for each fixture.
How much do Premier League referees earn?
Premier League referees are known as Select Group One (SG1). There are 21 full-time referees in this group.
These referees are paid somewhere between £73,000 and £148,000, depending on experience.
A match fee of about £1,100 is added.
Some of these SG1 referees will earn extra for officiating European and international matches.
Assistant referees earn approximately £60,000 in salary, and also receive match fees.
How does this compare to Championship referees? WSL referees?
The second tier - 'Select Group 2' referees - officiate Championship matches and will sometimes act as fourth officials at Premier League games.

Do Premier League referees get a bonus?
There are opportunities for Premier League referees to earn performance-related bonuses.
