Millwall charged by FA for homophobic Chilwell chants

Millwall have been charged for homophobic chants aimed at Crystal Palace left-back Ben Chilwell during their FA Cup meeting last month.
Palace beat their south-east London rivals 3-1 in the fifth round last month in a match that was marred by Lions goalkeeper Liam Roberts' red-card challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The Football Association said after the game it would investigate homophobic chants aimed at Chilwell, who is on loan at Selhurst Park from Chelsea.
Millwall have now been charged, external with misconduct and have until Wednesday to respond.
"The chant in question is condemned by Millwall Football Club and once again it strongly emphasises its zero-tolerance policy against discrimination of all kinds," Millwall said in a statement., external
"The club remains committed to working tirelessly to eradicate homophobic chanting, and any other form of discriminatory abuse, from the sport."
The FA said the chants in question happened in the fifth and 20th minutes of the match.
Millwall were also condemned by the FA for chants of "let him die" from some fans, aimed at Mateta while he was receiving treatment for his head injury.
The 27-year-old Frenchman required 25 stitches for a "severe laceration to his left ear".
