Charlton Athletic have signed Joe Rankin-Costello from Blackburn Rovers on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old made 115 Championship appearances for Rovers after making his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in January 2020, netting six times.

He is the sixth Charlton signing of the summer window so far, joining the likes of former Luton trio Thomas Kaminski, Amari'i Bell and Reece Burke at the Valley ahead of the newly-promoted club's return to the second tier after a five year absence.

Primarily a wide midfielder, Rankin-Costello filled in at right-back for Rovers last season in the absence of Callum Britain and made 29 league appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.

"The manager was really positive about the project and it made me want to come here straight away. I wanted a new challenge and I'm really excited to embrace it," Rankin-Costello told the club website., external

Charlton boss Nathan Jones added: "We're really delighted to get Joe on board. He's a really versatile and technically excellent midfield player, with good energy and lots of Championship experience."
