MK Dons defender Nathan Thompson is likely to miss the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury.

The 34-year-old damaged his posterior cruciate ligament during Tuesday's 2-1 win over Harrogate - only his second game for the club after moving from Stevenage.

"We're looking at round about four months lay-off, so we probably won't see him (again) this season," boss Scott Lindsey told the club website.

"You have to wear a brace for about 12 weeks which keeps the shin bone in place and allows the ligament to grow back. And there's a four-week period to rehab after that."

Stevenage agreed to sell Thompson - who went off after only 18 minutes against Harrogate - after he rejected the offer of a new contract from the League One club.

He joined Boro in the summer of 2023 after previously playing for Swindon Town, Portsmouth and Peterborough United.

Mk Dons are 11th in League Two and are away to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
