Tranmere Rovers have named Andy Crosby as their new permanent manager.

Crosby has been handed the job after successfully keeping Rovers in League Two while having the role on an interim basis.

He led the team to six wins and five draws from his 13 games in charge as Tranmere eventually finished 20th, nine points clear of relegation.

Crosby had only joined the Prenton Park club in December to work as a coach under Nigel Adkins, but he stepped up when Adkins was dismissed in February.

Only four clubs collected more points than Tranmere in League Two in the time since Crosby took over.

He made such an impression that the ex-Port Vale manager was the chosen candidate to lead the Wirral outfit moving forward.

"Andy achieved everything I asked of him as interim manager, turning a team that was struggling for confidence into one which was very difficult to beat and, crucially, securing our place in the EFL," said, external chairman Mark Palios.

"He led the team to some great results in the final quarter of the season, was bold in his decision making, tactics and substitutions, and formed a great togetherness in the squad."
