Chesterfield boss Paul Cook has said midfielder John Fleck is "in great form" but must see a specialist before being able to play again.

The former Scotland midfielder was taken to hospital before the League Two match with Doncaster Rovers on 6 February.

Assistant boss Danny Webb told BBC Radio Sheffield after the game that the 33-year-old "had a fit of some sort" but was conscious when he left the stadium.

Fleck previously collapsed off the ball during a game for Sheffield United against Reading in November 2021 but was able to return to playing four weeks later.

"John is brilliant - he was on medication and he came off the medication because of how good he felt," boss Paul Cook told the club website., external

"John's just got to see one more specialist to get that box ticked. He's in great form, he's been in every day, so I can reassure our supporters that everything looks great with him.

"He won't be at Walsall [on Saturday] but hopefully it will be soon."

Fleck started his career with Rangers and and spent eight years with Sheffield United between 2016 and 2024, twice winning promotion to the Premier League.
