Cambridge United are braced for bad news about Kylian Kouassi after he suffered a hamstring injury in their goalless draw with Barnet.

The 22-year-old forward had to go off in the 50th minute of Saturday's game at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, to be replaced by Louis Appere.

"It doesn't look a good one - we'll have more of a steer during the week," boss Neil Harris told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"We were thinking about Kylian and Louis as a pair - certainly from the hour mark - so we were just getting Louis ready and Kylian goes down, so that threw that plan.

"The overriding emotion is disappointment for Kylian personally but also gutted for us as a group."

Harris hinted the number of injuries in the squad would mean further recruitment during the January transfer window.

"We're going to have to find solutions over the coming weeks," he said.

"We're a work in progress as a group and transfer windows help your work in progress, and we need one now."

Cambridge have not won any of their past three league games, with two draws and a defeat, and are 12th in League Two, but only three points away from the play-off places.

Harris was unhappy with their overall performance against Barnet, despite being satisfied with a clean sheet.

He added: "With the ball we were miles off it, our movement was laboured at times.

"It was our biggest game of the season, it was brilliant to see so many fans here getting behind the team and we didn't quite do enough - that's my frustration.

"That was our poorest [home] performance so far."
