Huddersfield Town have sacked sporting director Mark Cartwright after less than two years in the role.
Cartwright joined the Yorkshire club in July 2023 and the club were relegated from the Championship in his only full season in post.
The Terriers sit five points off the League One play-off places with three matches remaining and have lost five of their past six matches.
The club said, external Cartwright had left the club with immediate effect.
"Undergoing a full review of our sporting operations ahead of another important summer for the club, we have made the difficult decision to relieve Mark of his duties with immediate effect," CEO Jake Edwards said.
"Retaining the full support of the chairman, our collective efforts will be focussed on completing a positive summer of activity both on and off the field, allowing us to head into the 2025-26 season with a renewed belief and confidence in all departments.
"On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank Mark for his efforts during his time at Huddersfield Town and wish him the very best for the future."
Huddersfield have had five managers during Cartwright's short period with the club - with four of those in charge at various points of a disastrous 2023-24 season that ended with Town finishing second from bottom in the Championship.
Neil Warnock was in charge when Cartwright arrived at the John Smith's Stadium, with Darren Moore replacing him shortly after.
Moore left the club after just four months, with Jon Worthington taking over as interim boss for one month.
Andre Breitenreiter was then brought in in February last year to try - and ultimately fail - to avoid relegation to League One.
He left by mutual consent at the end of the season and was replaced by Michael Duff.
Duff was sacked last month with Worthington again taking over in an interim role until the end of the season.
