Chesterfield have signed midfielder Jenson Metcalfe on loan from Everton for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old has yet to appear for the Premier League club's first team, but was on the bench for their opening game of the new season against Brighton.

He is Chesterfield's 10th summer signing and his arrival follows that of Newcastle goalkeeper Max Thompson on Thursday.

"It’s a great move for me and it’s a fantastic club to come to and get some games under my belt," Metcalfe told the Spireites' website.

“For me, it feels like a good step to come and play some games at a big club. I’m ready for it; it’s a fresh challenge."

Chesterfield forward Joe Quigley, 27, has, meanwhile, left the club to join National League side Forest Green Rovers in a permanent deal.

The Spireites are away to Gillingham on Saturday in a 12:30 BST kick-off.
