Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has been given a one-match touchline ban and fined £1,000 for misconduct during their home defeat by Barnsley.

Ferguson admitted using "abusive and insulting words" to a match official at the end of the 29 December game, which Posh lost 3-1.

He will therefore have to watch Saturday's League One game away to third-placed Wrexham from the stands.

Peterborough are currently 18th, having ended a run of three successive defeats with a 2-2 draw at Burton Albion on New Year's Day.

Ferguson, who guided his team to the play-offs in the past two seasons, is expecting both incomings and outgoings during the January transfer window.

"We've had inquiries for players and we've put some bids in for players we're trying to sign," the Scot told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I think in the next week, there might be a bit of movement."

He made it clear, however, that 10-goal forward Kwame Poku, who is out for three months following surgery on a hamstring injury, will not be leaving.

"We get so much speculation about our players, which is a good thing, even though this season has not gone anywhere near as well as we'd hoped, but it can't always be perfect in football," he added.

"We're still getting a lot of interest in our players, which will always be the case, and I think that's a credit to the ones we do recruit."

Peterborough's squad has now been reinforced by Swedish striker Gustav Lindgren, who was signed in September on a two-and-a-half-year contract, but they had to wait for the transfer window to open before being able to complete the deal.
