Notts County's director of football Roberto Gagliardi has left the League Two club after just five months at Meadow Lane.

The Italian initially took on the role of head of football, but was moved into the director of football job as part of a summer restructure that saw the introduction of a technical board.

Gagliardi was part of the board alongside head coach Martin Paterson, Notts owners Chris and Alex Reedtz as well as others.

It was with Notts that Gagliardi returned to English football from Turkish side Goztepe SK, having previously worked at Leyton Orient and Portsmouth.

But he leaves after a summer of significant change to the squad.

Eleven players were signed, while veteran forward David McGoldrick - who left to join Barnsley on a free transfer - and goalkeeper Alex Bass - whose move to Peterborough United generated a a fee of more than £300,000 - were the among a lengthy list of departures.

The Reedtz brothers have said they will "take some time to consider" how Gagliardi will be replaced.

"We would like to assure supporters that our scouting and recruitment operation will continue unaffected," they said in a joint statement on the club website., external

"We remain in close dialogue with our head coach Martin Paterson and his staff to ensure they have the support they need to build on our promising start to the season."

The role Paterson plays as part of the technical board, and what signings are made, was brought into focus last week by the head coach when he said he would stick to "lane" and that his opinions about Notts' budget and the squad's ability to challenge for promotion from League Two are "irrelevant".
