Villarreal have won just one of their last nine matches against Athletic in LaLiga (D5 L3) but that was the last of them, 5-1 last May.
After three consecutive away defeats to Villarreal in LaLiga between 2015 and 2017, Athletic have avoided defeat in five of their last six visits to Villarreal in the top-flight (W1 D4 L1).
Athletic have only lost in two of their last 14 visits to teams from the Comunidad Valenciana in LaLiga (W4 D8) although one of those defeats was a 1-5 loss to Villarreal in the last of those (May 2023).
Villarreal have won only one of their last seven home LaLiga games (D2 L4), 2-1 v Almería in the first one under Pacheta, failing to win in their last three matches at La Cerámica (D1 L2). The last time they failed to win in four home matches in a row in the competition was in February 2021 (G4 D2 L2).
Athletic have lost their last two LaLiga away games without scoring a goal and have not lost three or more in a row away from home without scoring in the competition since March 2018 with José Ángel Ziganda as coach (L4).
Athletic are one of four teams yet to score goal in the first quarter of an hour after the break this season in LaLiga, alongside Barcelona, Celta Vigo and Rayo Vallecano, and Villarreal have conceded the most in that stretch (four, level with Cádiz and Sevilla).
Iñaki Williams has been involved in seven goals in 11 games for Athletic in LaLiga 2023/24 (four goals and three assists), his highest involvement goal record at this stage in a top-flight campaign.
Nico Williams has made three assists for Athletic in LaLiga this season (eight games) - among players born 2002 onwards, only Girona's Sávio (4) has provided more than him (also three Fran Pérez and Yan Couto).
Villarreal's Juan Foyth has completed the most dribbles of any defender in LaLiga this season (19 successful out of 26 attempted).
Athletic coach Ernesto Valverde has only won in two of his 11 visits to Villarreal in LaLiga (D3 L6), a win with his current club in February 2004 (1-0) and another with Barcelona in December 2017 (2-0).
