Hoffenheim manager Christian Ilzer has led his side to their best start to a season since 2016.

Hoffenheim are having their best start to a Bundesliga season since 2016/17, earning 19 points from a maximum 30. That season they had 20 points from their opening ten matches and finished fourth under Julien Nagelsmann.

After a mixed start with seven points from their opening six fixtures, they are now on a four-match unbeaten run and sit in sixth in the Bundesliga table.

Last time out they defeated second-placed RB Leipzig 3-1 and they can move above them in the table with a three-goal win this evening.

Mainz have had a poor start to the season, winning only once so far in a 4-1 thrashing away at Augsburg on matchday four.

They have been especially poor in front of their home fans, having only won one point from a possible 15.

But they are unbeaten in the Europa Conference League after enjoying a 2-1 win at home against Fiorentina. Can they translate that confidence into their league form tonight.
