    Manchester City

For the avoidance of doubt, this is a picture of Nico Gonzalez - the new Manchester City signing who has been marked down as an injury doubt for Tuesday's Champions League game at home to Real Madrid.

There have been conflicting reports on social media about whether he was training.

BBC Sport's chief football news reporter Simon Stone is at the training ground and has confirmed that Gonzalez is taking part in the session.

Whether or not he will be fit to play tomorrow is another story...

Re Con 14:21, LFC vs Madrid isn't as big a rivalry because Madrid have won every knockout tie between them in the last decade. City give as good as they get and in most recent campaigns the winner of City v Madrid wins the tournament. Ask a Madrid fan who their biggest European rival is and you'd see...

Man City v Real Madrid (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

There was an absence of team news questions in Pep Guardiola's news conference earlier so it will be interesting to see who is training for Manchester City when the media are allowed in for the first 15 minutes.

Guardiola threw a curve ball before last month's defeat at Paris St-Germain when he didn't send any of his defenders out to train - and it transpired Ruben Dias was carrying a knock.

The main focus will be on whether Nico Gonzalez is there.

The £50m new-boy didn't even reach half-time on his debut at Leyton Orient after getting injured in the build-up to Jamie Donley's amazing shot that led to the home side's goal.

    Manchester City

Just a reminder that Manchester City are due to take to the training complex at the Etihad campus any time soon ahead of the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Real Madrid tomorrow.

Pep Guardiola didn't give any team news in his media conference earlier this afternoon, so we'll be casting a beady eye over who's out there and more importantly who isn't.

The plan is to stream the training session in this page, all being well.

There is normally a handful of cameras to watch the open section of Manchester City training ahead of a normal Champions League game.

The visit of Real Madrid, even for a play-off, is not normal.

There are loads of cameras here and suspect there will be even more when Jude Bellingham and co train at the main stadium at 19:00 GMT.

  14. 'With VAR, football is not that emotional'published at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

Mitoma scores winner against Chelsea but should it have stood?

Brighton might have had their winner against Chelsea disallowed for a Tariq Lamptey handball so perhaps it is not a huge shock that boss Fabian Hurzeler enjoyed a weekend without VAR.

"That's football," he told BBC Sport. "With VAR, football is getting not that emotional like it was today.

"Everyone agrees with me that today was a great atmosphere. You can celebrate a goal because you are certain it's a goal. I'm happy it was like that."

Some were less convinced, including his Chelsea counterpart Enzo Maresca - whose side might still be in the FA Cup with VAR, albeit as it was an accidental handball and Lamptey did not score the goal himself, it may still have stood.

"I think the handball is quite clear. In the last two or three days, there were many different moments in different games that, without VAR, sometimes are more complicated," said Maresca.

However he added: "Sometimes even with VAR, you never know if it's [going to be given as] handball or not. I don't know. This season we saw so many handballs and the VAR was not there."

Maguire winner 'was offside' - Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted his side were fortunate after their winning goal stood despite Harry Maguire being offside.

He feels it vindicates the use of VAR, even if his side benefited on this occasion from its absence.

"With VAR it's not a goal," he said.

"I think it's important to have VAR because it's fair for the game. It's hard to lose like that with an offside play. But we deserve a little bit of luck."

  17. 'Unacceptable and unthinkable'published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    Man Utd 2-1 Leicester

Ruud van NistelrooyImage source, Getty Images

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was not at all happy about the lack of VAR after his side were beaten by Harry Maguire's last-minute goal at Manchester United.

Replays showed the defender was offside but the assistant referee did not raise his flag and with the technology to correct the decision not in use, the goal stood and Leicester went out.

"We are not defeated in Fergie time, we are defeated in offside time," the former Manchester United striker told ITV after his side were beaten in round four.

Having had a bit more time to digest the outcome when he faced the media around an hour after full-time, Van Nistelrooy was no calmer about the situation.

    "We are gutted," he said.

"When you prepare for the whole week for this game and reacting after the Everton loss and put in a performance like that but it is decided on a clear and obvious mistake, that is unacceptable and unthinkable at this level.

"We have nothing else to do but pick ourselves up. It is not what the team deserved."

  18. What were the other controversial incidents?published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

Harry Maguire scores late winner against Leicester

Match: Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City

What happened? Harry Maguire scored a controversial stoppage-time winner for FA Cup holders Manchester United, heading in Bruno Fernandes' free-kick in the 93rd minute. But while replays showed Maguire was clearly offside from the set-piece, it was not picked up by the on-field officials.

Should this have been a penalty?

    Match: Blackburn 0-2 Wolves

What happened? With the score at 0-0, Blackburn's Dominic Hyam guided a header past Sam Johnstone at the back post from John Buckley's free-kick. The linesman's offside call stood with no VAR, even though in some replays he looked onside.

For anyone who has been with us all day, we asked you a question this morning about the four teams that have lost to lower league opposition when top of the Premier League.

Liverpool's defeat at Plymouth put them into this heady list, but who were the other three?

    Well Kacper nailed it:

I think it’s Chelsea 2015 [to Bradford], City the year they lost to Wigan and Leeds 2002 [against Cardiff].

Newcastle equaliser awarded by assistant with no technology available

Match: Birmingham City 2-3 Newcastle United

What happened? Birmingham City goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell was positioned behind his goal line but believed he had kept out Joe Willock's close-range shot. The linesman flagged to award Newcastle the goal and, with no technology at the home of the League One leaders, that decision stood. Goal-line technology was in place at Premier League and Championship grounds.

What happened? It was the moment Leyton Orient's Jamie Donley wrote his name in cup folklore - but should it have stood? Manchester City, who made a full recovery from their shock setback after Donley's shot from 50 yards put the League One side ahead, felt Nico Gonzalez was fouled by Sonny Perkins in the build-up.
