Duffy's free-kick helped Derry pick up their first win of the season
Tiernan Lynch got his first three points as Derry City manager as his side beat Bohemians 1-0 in the Premier Division at the Brandywell.
Michael Duffy scored what proved to be the winner with a stunning first half free-kick.
Lynch and Bohs manager Alan Reynolds were sent off soon after the goal as a result of a melee involving both benches.
The Candystripes will host Waterford in their next league game next Friday.
The hosts got off to a quick start as Adam O'Reilly set off on a mazy run before playing in Dom Thomas, whose effort was tipped wide by James Talbot.
Derry then went ahead on 10 minutes as after Kian Best had fouled Thomas, Duffy curled home a free-kick from 25 yards.
That bit of quality ignited the game and, after a strong Shane Ferguson tackle in front of the visiting dugout, Bohs manager Reynolds got involved in a fracas and was sent to the stands.
The referee also showed a red card to Lynch for exiting his technical area to get involved in the melee.
With both managers now watching from on high, the game settled down somewhat with Lys Mousset's header over the bar on 22 minutes the only real first half chance for the away side.
After scoring the only Derry goal in the defeat at Tolka Park last week, Duffy could have had a hat-trick before the break, but Talbot saved another free-kick before Ronan Boyce's drilled square ball was just out of the reach for the midfielder.
Bohs created more after the break but will have been disappointed not to have troubled Brian Maher in the Derry goal as a pair of headers from Mousset and Connor Parsons went wide.
