England have reached back-to-back major tournament finals

England put on an entertaining display to beat Jamaica 7-0 in a friendly as they waved farewell to home supporters before travelling to Euro 2025.

Sarina Wiegman's side, who will attempt to defend their European crown in Switzerland next week, were dominant against a weakened Jamaica.

Without Manchester City star Khadija Shaw, Jamaica rarely troubled England, who were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to a double from Ella Toone and a Lucy Bronze header.

Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway extended England's lead in the second half with a powerful strike, before Lauren James came off the bench to make her first appearance since she was injured in April to set up Alessia Russo and make it 5-0.

Substitute Aggie Beever-Jones continued her impressive form, flicking the ball past goalkeeper Liya Brooks for England's sixth goal of the night, and another was added by Beth Mead in stoppage time to complete the rout.

What was the main talking point?

This was the final chance for England to show whether they are ready to compete with the best teams at Euro 2025 - and whether James is fit enough.

With Jamaica missing several key players, including Tottenham midfielder Drew Spence and Manchester City striker Shaw, it is hard to accurately assess England.

But they certainly put on a good show, looking fluid in attack and well-connected in midfield, and James only added to that with her introduction in the second half.

The defence was rarely tested, although England were let off for a brief lapse in concentration during a first-half corner. Jamaica's Kayla McKenna found the back of the net but it was ruled out by the video assistant referee (VAR) after Kiki van Zanten was blocking goalkeeper Hannah Hampton's view from an offside position.

Which players stood out?

With the left-back position among those seemingly up for grabs in England's opening Euros match, Jess Carter took her opportunity to boost her chances.

The Gotham FC defender made a strong last-ditch tackle in the first half before setting up Bronze's header before the break and was one of England's standout performers, helping them keep a clean sheet.

Elsewhere, Manchester United midfielder Toone showed why she should be starting in the number 10 position, grabbing a double and linking up well with the front line.

The standout stats

England had 35 shots against Jamaica, including 17 on target, while the visitors did not register a single effort across the 90 minutes.

Jamaica had 19% possession, with the defending European champions completing 707 of their 775 attempted passes and having 70 touches inside the opposition box.

What is next for England?

England begin the defence of their European title in Zurich on Saturday against France at 20:00 BST.

They must finish in the top two of their group - which also includes 2017 winners the Netherlands and tournament debutants Wales - to qualify for the knockout stages.
