Both Liverpool and Newcastle United are among the Premier League clubs who have previously registered their interest in England international Marc Guehi previously.

Crystal Palace rejected offers for the 25-year-old defender from Newcastle in January - the last of which was worth £65m.

Tottenham, meanwhile, reportedly had an offer worth up to £70m turned down too in the 2024-25 winter transfer window.

Liverpool also retain an interest in Guehi but it remains to be seen whether Arne Slot's side will spend heavily on a player they could acquire for free in 2026.

Palace are believed to want around £40m for Guehi this summer, but Liverpool want to pay less than that figure.

  3. What is Guehi's contract situation at Palace?published at 15:52 British Summer Time 11 August

Marc Guehi joined Crystal Palace on a five-year deal from Chelsea in 2021.

But the England international has now entered the final 12 months of his deal at Selhurst Park.

Palace rejected approaches from Newcastle and Tottenham in Janaury, in the hope the defender would sign a new deal in south London.

However, it appears the two parties are no closer to agreeing a deal to extend that contract.

Guehi is said to be open to remaining with the club until 2026 when his contract expires and at which point he can leave on a free transfer.

As things stand, Guehi will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England in January 2026.

  4. Palace could sell Guehipublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 11 August

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted the club could look to sell captain Marc Guehi to avoid losing him on a free at the end of his contract next summer.

Guehi is said to be open to remaining with the club until the end of 2025-26 but Parish says the club would reluctantly prefer to cash in on Guehi this summer.

"We'd have to do that, of course," said Parish.

"For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it's a problem for us unfortunately. Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn't afford to lose both.

"We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation.

"We'll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind."

With the balance throughout the team you can tell that they have played together for a long time. There is real belief in each other.

However the challenge for Crystal Palace is to keep that core group of players together, especially their more talented players.

I hope they [Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze] will but I don’t see them staying. They look like players who are ready to play Champions League football, they are also doing really well for England too. I hope that they stay because I believe that Crystal Palace can really build something going forward.

I think Guehi got a bit of an injury yesterday so I’m not too sure how serious it was but that could stifle a move away because obviously a club wants a player to come and hit the ground running but Eze will be gone for next season.

He’s too good to be playing for Crystal Palace and that’s no disrespect to Palace. All the best players want to play at the best clubs.

  7. Reijnders a 'special player' says Guardiolapublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 11 August

Manchester City end their pre-season with a 3-0 win over Palermo.

Their Dutch summer signing, midfielder Tijani Reijnders, scored a second-half brace in their victory but narrowly missed the opportunity to secure a hat-trick after missing a sitter.

City boss Pep Guardiola said he is pleased to have such a "special player" in his squad.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland netted with his only shot of the game.

City travel to the Molineux on Saturday to take on Wolves in their opening Premier League game of the season.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal completed their pre-season with a 3-0 victory over Spain's Athletic Bilbao at the Emirates stadium on Saturday.

Their new £64m striker Viktor Gyokeres scored his first goal for the Gunners, before rattling the woodwork with another chance.

The 27-year-old made his debut in a friendly against Villarreal, after coming on in the 63rd minute.

Can Gyokeres be the difference up front for Arsenal this season?

After a long and eventful summer, Chelsea wrapped up their pre-season with a 4-1 victory over AC Milan at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues lifted the Club World Cup in the United States with the help of new signing Joao Pedro - the Brazilian striker scored three goals in the tournament, including one in the final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Enzo Maresca's side took part in only two pre-season fixtures, which were against Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and Italian giants AC Milan. The 23-year-old found the net against both.

Pedro will look to carry his form into the 2025-26 season as Chelsea look to mount a title challenge.

Let's take a look at how some of them got on, and how their new signings bedded in.

  11. How could Savinho fit in at Spurs?published at 15:27 British Summer Time 11 August

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Tottenham are well stocked in wide areas despite the departure of Son Heung-min, with four players - Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson – likely to compete for two starting spots in Thomas Frank’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

But they are short of attacking midfielders. James Maddison will miss almost all of the season because of an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Dejan Kulusevski is recovering from a long-term patella issue and a move for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White was rejected last month.

Savinho, who is left footed, made two-thirds of his league appearances for City on the right and predominantly played for Girona on the left. While there seems little prospect of him being deployed centrally by Spurs, his arrival could free up Mohammed Kudus to play there.

Kudus, who has impressed in pre-season, was occasionally used as a number 10 by West Ham and also has experience in that role for Ajax and Ghana.

  12. How did Savinho fare in his first City season?published at 15:22 British Summer Time 11 August

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Manchester City winger Savinho has been linked with a surprise move to Tottenham just a year after joining from City’s sister club Troyes. He scored nine league goals on loan at Spanish side Girona as they finished third in La Liga in 2023-24 yet netted only once in his debut Premier League campaign.

That wasn’t for the want of trying – only Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne had more attempts on goal for City. But a lack of ruthlessness resulted in the Brazilian underperforming his expected goals total by four, the worst figure of any Premier League player last term.

However, the 21-year-old did offer plenty of creativity, registering eight top-flight assists, more than any of his team-mates. His tally of 46 chances created was the club’s third highest figure, while he also showcased his ability to run at opposition defenders, attempting 102 dribbles – second only to Jeremy Doku amongst City players.

Tottenham already have plenty of wide players, so how would he fit in? Let's take a look.

  15. Spending by promoted clubs set to surpass £300mpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 11 August

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Getafe defender Omar Alderete for an initial £10m, a transfer which, once completed, will take spending by the three newly promoted clubs to over £300m this summer.

Excluding Alderete, the Black Cats have paid out an estimated £122m on 10 players. Burnley have brought in 13 new faces at a cost of approximately £100m, while Leeds have invested £73.5m on seven signing.

There is little doubt that consolidating top-flight status is harder than ever, with the gulf between the Championship and Premier League continuing to widen. In each of the previous two seasons, the three sides that came up went straight back down.

As a consequence, clubs are spending ever increasing sums in the hope of remaining competitive, but with no guarantee it will pay off. Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester shelled out a total of £276.5m last summer but together they accumulated just 59 points, the lowest combined figure by newly promoted teams in a 38-game Premier League season.

Should Sunderland continue to splash the cash, they could surpass Nottingham Forest’s outlay of around £142m three years ago – the most ever by top-flight newcomers.

Everton have agreed a season-long loan deal for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish.

Sources have told BBC Sport that the clubs have reached an agreement, who reportedly earns £300,000-a-week at City, and a medical is imminent.

The 29-year-old had fallen out of favour at City and was left out of their squad for the final Premier League game of last season at Fulham as well as the Club World Cup in the United States.

The England playmaker joined City from Aston Villa for what was a British record fee of £100m in August 2021 and has made more than 150 appearances, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

But he made only seven league starts last season as City ended the season without winning a major trophy.

  19. Cunha and Mbeumo pairing is 'going to be special'published at 14:45 British Summer Time 11 August

Manchester United ended their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Italian side Fiorentina on Saturday.

Before kick-off, the Red Devils unveiled their latest signings, Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo at Old Trafford - with Cunha and Mbeumo both starting for Ruben Amorim.

Mason Mount operated in the more central role with Cunha and Mbeumo on wider sides, however during the game, the Brazilian international operated more centrally out of the two, and got into the box more often than the Cameroonian international.

Head Coach Amirom believes the pairing is "going to be special," believing that "they are maybe [at] 50, 60 per cent of what they can do".
